Alpha Tile Adhesive
Veromaxx Alpha is a premium polymer-modified cement-based tile adhesive engineered for vitrified and ceramic tile installations that face the full spectrum of Indian construction conditions – indoor and outdoor, wall and floor, up to 600×1200mm tile size. Classified as Type 2 T (C2 T) under IS 15477 and EN 12004, Alpha delivers the higher tensile bond strength and thermal-cycling resistance required for exterior floors, balconies, wet areas and premium indoor installations. When your project extends beyond simple indoor tiling, Alpha is the reliable step-up specification.
What is Veromaxx Alpha Tile Adhesive?
Veromaxx Alpha is a Type 2 T polymer-modified cementitious tile adhesive – one full classification step above the standard Type 1 grade. The Type 2 rating means Alpha delivers a minimum tensile bond strength of 1.0 N/mm² under both dry and heat-aged conditions, providing the reliable long-term hold required for non-porous vitrified tiles, tiles up to 600×1200mm, and installations exposed to temperature cycling, water contact or exterior weather.
Alpha is the correct specification when the tile installation faces one or more of these conditions: outdoor exposure (balconies, terraces, exterior floors, façade wall cladding), tiles larger than 600×600mm (up to 600×1200mm)
Stronger Than Traditional Cement Mortar
Wet areas with sustained water contact, or premium residential and commercial installations where long-term performance justifies the higher specification.

Suitable Substrates & Tile Materials for Alpha
Suitable substrates: cured cement plaster (minimum 28 days), concrete slabs, cement screeds, brick and block masonry, cement backer boards for wet areas, existing sound tiles (with appropriate surface preparation), waterproofing membranes (with primer where specified). All substrates must be clean, sound, plumb or level, and free of dust, oil, curing compounds, laitance and loose material.
Suitable tile materials: ceramic, vitrified, porcelain, and glazed tiles up to 600×1200mm. Compatible with most standard tile finishes. For large-format tiles at the maximum size range, back-buttering is required to ensure full coverage.

How to Mix & Apply Veromaxx Alpha
Follow this verified 4-step execution protocol to ensure a 100% void-free ceramic floor installation.
Walls or floors must be clean, sound, plumb or level, and free of dust, oil, curing compounds, laitance and loose material. Dampen highly absorbent substrates. Prime gypsum substrates with an appropriate primer. On outdoor applications, ensure the substrate is not saturated with water.
Measure clean water into a clean bucket at 25-28% by weight of powder (approximately 5-5.5 litres per 20kg bag). Add Veromaxx Alpha powder gradually while mixing with a low-speed drill and paddle.
Mix for 3-5 minutes until a smooth, lump-free, workable paste is achieved. Let stand for 5 minutes for polymer activation, then re-mix briefly before use.
Apply the adhesive to the substrate using a notched trowel - 6mm notch for tiles below 300×300mm, 10mm notch for tiles 300×300 to 600×600mm, 12mm notch for tiles above 600×600mm. Work in small areas within the 20-30 minute open time.
Press each tile firmly into the adhesive bed with a twisting motion to collapse the ribs. For all tiles above 300×300mm and all outdoor installations, back-butter the tile with a thin layer of adhesive to achieve full 100% coverage on the tile back. Check back coverage on the first few tiles.
Adjust tile position within the 15-20 minute adjustment time. Use tile spacers. Remove excess adhesive from faces and joints before it sets. Do not grout for at least 24 hours. For outdoor installations, protect from rain for the first 24 hours after application.

FAQs About Alpha Tile Adhesive
Find answers to all your questions about our products, and applications.
What is the difference between Matrix and Alpha?
Matrix is Type 1 T (C1 T) – indoor use only, tiles up to 600×600mm, tensile bond ≥ 0.5 N/mm². Alpha is Type 2 T (C2 T) – indoor AND outdoor, tiles up to 600×1200mm, tensile bond ≥ 1.0 N/mm² (twice the Matrix minimum), with proven heat-aging and water-immersion performance. Use Alpha when the project involves outdoor exposure, tiles above 600×600mm, wet areas, or any installation requiring premium specification.
Can I use Alpha for outdoor floor tiling?
Yes. Alpha is Type 2 T (C2 T) rated for both indoor and outdoor use – engineered for the thermal cycling, UV exposure and freeze-thaw stress that outdoor installations face across North Indian seasons. Suitable for balconies, terraces, exterior floors and lower-height external wall cladding. For high-rise façade work or elevation tiles at significant height, step up to Omega or Quantum.
Is Alpha waterproof for bathroom use?
Alpha provides effective waterproofing at the adhesive layer when properly applied. However, no tile adhesive alone is a substitute for a full waterproofing system in bathrooms and wet areas – always combine Alpha with a proper waterproofing membrane on the substrate and pair with Veromaxx Epoxy Grout at the joints for a complete watertight installation.
What tile size does Alpha support?
Alpha is rated for ceramic and vitrified tiles up to 600×1200mm. For tiles larger than this, use Veromaxx Omega (indoor and outdoor cladding, up to 600×1200mm with higher performance) or Veromaxx Quantum (any tile size, deformable formulation for elevation work).
Do I need to back-butter tiles with Alpha?
Yes for all tiles above 300×300mm, and for all outdoor installations regardless of tile size. Back-buttering ensures full 100% coverage on the tile back, which is critical for long-term bond integrity under thermal cycling and water exposure. For indoor ceramic tiles below 300×300mm, back-buttering is not strictly required but recommended.
Can I use Alpha for façade tile installation?
For low-rise façade tile cladding up to 3-4 storeys, Alpha is a suitable specification. For high-rise façade work, elevation tiles at significant height, or heavy natural stone cladding, use Veromaxx Omega or Quantum – these are engineered specifically for the higher stress and safety requirements of vertical cladding at height.
How much Alpha do I need per square metre?
At 5mm bed thickness (medium tiles): 4-5 kg/m². At 8mm bed thickness (600×1200mm tiles with back-buttering): 7-8 kg/m². For outdoor floor installations requiring 100% back coverage, budget 6-7 kg/m². Add 10-15% waste allowance.
Is Alpha suitable for commercial floors?
Yes. Alpha is a strong specification for commercial floor tile installation in retail, offices, showrooms, hotels and restaurants – the Type 2 T classification delivers the wear resistance and bond strength commercial floors require. For high-traffic commercial and industrial floors, step up to Omega or Quantum.
